About Us: Bhavan’s Research Center (BRC), based out of Bhavan’s College, Andheri, is an ISO/IEC 17025 accredited and BIS empaneled Microbiology laboratory, established with best practices in Microbiology to serve the needs of industry and society.

After successfully gaining a reputation in testing and analysis in microbiology with several leading industries, BRC has initiated its move to the next level of competencies in the areas of virology, cell biology, molecular biology, and microbiome, to set up analytical skills and exploratory research that can be offered to industry, regulatory, and government organizations. To address this need, BRC requires a Lead Scientist to drive its research wing in these areas to meet the requirements in the areas of hygiene, water, and environment, on a self-sustaining basis, which will also enable the organization’s growth and expansion.

Required Qualifications & Experience

1. PhD
2. 10+ years of demonstrated experience and research role, with 5+ years in a leadership position, in areas of virology, cell biology & molecular biology.

Required Competencies & Skills

1. Demonstrated experience in anti-virus studies using standard methods, including the ability to identify problems in assays and work towards resolving the same.
2. Ability to conceptualize research projects, apply for funding, execute projects synthesize data, and draw informed, accurate conclusions.
3. Ability to contribute scientifically by understanding the industry, social & regulatory needs & developing the right strategies for designing research proposals.
4. Strong scientific writing and communication skills
5. Excellent team building & good interpersonal and administrative skills for supervisory and execution roles.

Job Description & Responsibilities:

Overall: Providing leadership to the virology & molecular biology department, on a self-sustainable basis, including managing budgets and hiring staff members, by understanding the current and future requirements of the industry.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

1. Taking charge of the smooth functioning of virology and molecular biology departments, including general administration, discipline, documentation, purchase, infrastructure, etc.
2. Managing assays in areas of anti-virus studies, cell biology, and bacteriophages as per the standard or lab-designed methods with required documentation and lead the same towards relevant accreditations.
3. Enhance molecular biology studies in the laboratory, using the latest tools for metagenomic & microbiome-based studies.
4. Developing, applying, and managing new research projects (both industry & government funding) from design and analysis to presentation and communication of findings, effectively using quantitative and qualitative resources
5. Amplify the impact of BRC through sharing research outcomes and accomplishments in scientific journals, social media, and other relevant platforms
6. Take overall responsibility for virology and other research areas as a cost center, both, with regard to revenue & all related expenses.
