Dr. Nishith Desai

Nishith holds a PhD in Microbiology from the University of Mumbai for his research work on "Risk assessment of pathogenic and spoilage-causing microorganisms in dairy products using mathematical approaches."

 

He has been a part of Bhavan’s Research Center since 2007 and currently leads the technical and operations teams in the laboratory. He was instrumental in substantiating BRC with ISO/IEC 17025 (NABL) accreditation, as well as in the implementation of quality assurance systems in the laboratory and the establishment of a robust microbial culture maintenance system based on international guidelines.

 

Technically, Nishith’s areas of expertise include home-personal care, food and water and environmental microbiology, laboratory-based quality management systems, training and developing technical skills, method development, validation and human volunteer based microbiological studies. He is on the panel of FAD and BIS as a technical expert for water and water purification devices.

 

Nishith has been instrumental in designing and executing a variety of projects in related areas for various industries and funding bodies. He is the study coordinator for human volunteer-based projects related to hygiene, including methods like cup scrub, glove juice, and BIS substantiation.

  4. Food Microbiology- Pathogen Testing, Surveillance Studies
  5. Microbial Risk Assessment
  6. Modelling Microbial Growth
  7. Quantitative Microbial Risk Assessment (QMRA)
  8. Clinical Studies- Hygiene based human volunteer studies
  9. Application of bacteriophage as indicator and reduction of bacterial pathogens in waste water
