BRC’s strong academia background puts us in a uniquely advantageous position to conduct scientific research projects for the governmental and non-governmental agencies.
As a part of our mission, BRC aims to create synergy with diverse Government and Non-Government Agencies (National & Global) by undertaking customized tests, research, consultative and investigative projects. BRC aspires to conduct high-quality application-oriented testing and research focused in the field of Water, Hygiene, Environment and Food.
BRC’s consultative approach to research projects
- Collaborative projects with research organizations
- Funded projects from Govt. and/or Non-Govt. Bodies
- Undertaking issue-based projects post identifying knowledge gaps and needs of Regulatory bodies, Industries and Society.
Areas of Research with BRC
- Water & food safety monitoring
- Pathogen detection/surveillance in water, food, personal & home care products
- Studying microflora associated with home and personal hygiene and associated products.
- Spoilage of food, personal care products
- Effectiveness of disinfectants & antimicrobial agents
- Microbial risk assessment
- Water sanitation & hygiene (WASH) based studies and WASH interventions
- Anti-microbial resistance (AMR) studies
- Contamination resolution in hygiene & cosmetic products
- Applications of bacteriophages in bacterial control
- Effectiveness evaluation of water treatment technologies
- Grey water & waste water studies for pathogen detection
Govt & Non-Govt Funded Projects:
Water
- Evaluation of risk associated with E. coli (pathogenic) in stored water using QMRA: A real-time surveillance of an urban slum pocket (supported by Society for Applied Microbiology, UK)
- Designing surrogate for assessment of inactivation of Cryptosporidium spp. using ozone in water treatment system (supported by DST-Water Technology Initiative)
- Health risk assessment of household stored water in a Mumbai based urban slum pocket (supported by Mumbai University)
Hygiene
- Assessment of inanimate objects as reservoir of nosocomial bacteria and efficacy of common disinfectants in their management (supported by UGC)
Environment
- Occurrence and persistence of SARS-Cov-2 (COVID-19) along with known biological indicators in waste waters of Mumbai City (supported by IUSSTF)
- Study on using bacteriophage for reduction of enteric pathogens in domestic sewage and wastewater effluent (supported by DST-Water Technology Initiative)
- Lab scale feasibility study of using bacteriophage for reduction of enteric pathogens in domestic sewage and wastewater effluent (supported CPCB)
- Development of platform technology for Bio-Oil production from heterotrophic microalgae (supported by DST)
